The Grandmother's Vest
The Crone Vest & Poncho, like the wise crone in which it's named, this garment is not what it seems. It's not just a vest, it has two hidden holes at its neck, to bring the embroidered fabric through, for a draping effect. Not feeling like a vest? Put your head in one of the arm holes and one arm in the other hole and you have a short or long poncho depending on which arm you put in the hole.
This is a one-of-a-kind garment, made from vintage Suzani textiles hand embroidered by women in Uzbekistan. Originally made for women's dowries, this embroidered technique has been passed down from mother to daughter since ancient times. Each symbol, pattern and color are specifically chosen by the creator to tell a story. By repurposing these textiles and using them for self-adornment, the wearer can feel the intention and sacredness in each garment.
